Ice Skating . . . Ah-SAH! ("Cool!")

Today I taught my friends' three- and four-year-old daughters how to ice skate, while their parents sat on the sidelines and watched. The girls had never been skating before and had a serious case of spaghetti legs, which left me doing most of the work. I'm really going to feel it tomorrow, but it was great fun. The rink was almost totally empty. I think it's the least crowded place I've been in all of Korea! The girls had fun, and I had a blast. Now that I know that there's a nice, quiet ice rink nearby, I'm going to go more often. I might even bring my figure skates back to Korea with me this summer.

It was a beautiful day, so after a couple hours of skating, we went to a nearby lake and ate lunch on the patio of a nice restaurant. Then we walked along a lake, throwing rocks in the water, admiring turtles and tadpoles, and making daisy-chain crowns. It was a very good day.

Yesterday was also nice. I got together with a friend whom I haven't seen in five weeks since she had been home in Germany since early March. It was great to see her again. We met at my apartment and chatted for a while and then went out for lunch. The cherry trees are in full bloom, so we took a long walk around town to admire them.We ended up walking all the way to her apartment, clear across town from where I live. The weather was beautiful, and since we hadn't seen each other in 5 weeks, we had a lot to talk about! I left her apartment at 6:30 PM walked back to my neighborhood, past this lovely row of trees growing just outside one of the elementary schools in town.It was a great weekend. Beautiful weather and trees. Good friends. Great fun. Way to go, April!

Hi Kayla. It sounds like you're a much better skater than I am! I just go out on the rink and skate around in cirlces because it's fun. I don't usually fall down, but I can't do anything fancy either. Yesterday I just showed the little girls how to stay standing up (most of the time) and move slowly on the ice.

Not related to this post, but am thinking of your friend today at Virginia Tech. Praying for the families and the Hokie community.

Hi mommavia! My sister's friend Meredyth is okay. I don't know anyone at Virginia Tech these days, but my sister still does. I don't know anything about her other friends. Thanks for thinking of us. What a tragedy. I'm keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers as well.

Glad to hear your sister's friend is well! I couldn't remember from your Relay post if it was someone you knew or not...I think I'm getting old.
