It's been another insanely busy week. I started teaching one new preschool class and one new kindergarten class this week. That means I now have 15 different groups of kids and 38 class periods in a week, not counting my Friday morning mothers class. Since it's the beginning of the month, I'm up to my neck in progress reports for April and lesson plans for May.
On Wednesday, even though I had a hundred things to do, I decided to go for a walk during my lunch break. I'm glad I did because I got to take in this beautiful park in my city that is just covered in blooming azaleas. The photos really don't do the scene justice. There's just no way to capture the radiance of the flowers. The people are circled in yellow in a couple of the photos to give you an idea of the scale of this hill and just how many azaleas we're talking about here.

It was 1 year ago Friday that I interviewed for my job here, so I went out for dinner with my coworkers to celebrate. I told them that I was very nervous about the interview because I could tell that this is a really good school and that they were looking for an experienced teacher, so I was sure I didn't get the job. I think about how much my coworkers and students mean to me and how each of them brightens my life, and I'm thankful that the directors of my school took the risk of creating a position for this newbie English teacher. One year ago today, I explored my current town for the first time. I remember everything seeming so foreign, and now, when I walk out of the subway station after a trip to Seoul or another town, I feel like I'm at home. Wow. How much has changed in a year!
Today I slept in. This week really wore me out. The rest of my morning and early afternoon were quiet. I worked on progress reports and lesson plans but still have a lot of work to go on them. Then I met Joy and Chloe this afternoon, and we headed to Hongdae, a very trendy university district in Seoul, to meet up with a couple of their friends. It was a great day. We walked around a little and ate and talked a lot. It was a great way to spend the day. Here we are at a coffee shop (one of three food stops in the course of six hours). Yong-jun took the first two pictures. Joy took the others, I think.

And here's some of the funky art on the walls:

No plans for tomorrow except to finish lesson plans and progress reports. Beginning this week, I'll teach one more 1st grade class and one more adult class, which brings my total up to 41 class periods for the next three weeks until a new teacher gets here, so I really need what's left of this weekend to get a head start on the next few weeks.
